Grace-Filled Journey To Being Cancer Free
More than a year ago, I was diagnosed with HER2-positive (Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2-positive) breast cancer—a more aggressive type of breast cancer. It all began when I suddenly felt a lump on my right breast. Everything moved so quickly. I had to start chemotherapy to shrink the 4cm lump, followed by a mastectomy.
To be honest, I was in shock. I was afraid. As a single person and the primary caregiver to both my elderly parents, I felt overwhelmed. I worried about the future. Who would care for them if I wasn’t well? What would happen to me?
During that season, I continued attending church services. One particular Sunday, I vividly remember Pastor Prince calling out to those diagnosed with breast cancer in the right breast to stand up. At that moment, I hesitated. I told myself, “He’s probably talking to the people at The Star, not here at Marina Bay Sands.”
But God knows our every thought. Right after I said that in my heart, Pastor Prince added, “This is also for those at the Marina Bay Sands venue.” I was stunned. In that moment, I knew that God was speaking directly to me. My tears flowed as I stood up, and immediately, two or three sisters surrounded me to pray. One of them embraced me, and I couldn’t stop crying. It felt as if Jesus Himself was wrapping me in His arms and whispering, “I see you. I am with you.” That was just the beginning of how God began to show His grace in my life.
Even before I knew about the diagnosis, my youngest sister, who is married, had to move back in temporarily while waiting for her new flat. It was as if God had already arranged for someone to be there for me during my recovery. He truly went ahead of me.
At work, my boss, without hesitation, allowed me to work from home throughout the year and even reassigned much of my workload. Despite everything, he gave me the highest bonus I’ve ever received—almost five months’ worth of salary!
And here’s the biggest miracle: after my treatment, my oncologist and surgeon told me they could not find any cancer cells. The lump had disappeared, and my lymph nodes were clear! Praise Jesus!
I remember declaring Psalm 91: “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” And it truly didn’t. His Word became real and alive in me. All glory to Jesus.
