Peaceful Trip Abroad Despite Unrests

In November last year, my husband and I travelled to Hong Kong together with our team to conduct a workshop. There was much unrest in Hong Kong as protests were going on. Just two days prior to our flight there, a big protest took place next to the apartment we booked.

Due to the situation, even concerts were cancelled. Despite that, the organiser of the workshop told us that the situation had calmed down, and advised us to proceed on with our plans.

By God’s grace, we were able to carry out our workshop as scheduled. What was even more amazing was the fact that there was no riot or protest when we were there. According to our Hong Kong partner, the week that we were there happened to be one of the most peaceful weeks in six months.

We realised that it was also the voting weekend in Hong Kong, and there were speculations that the next protest was taking place a day after we left the country.

Pastor Prince always reminds us that we are greatly blessed and highly favoured because of Christ’s finished work. During the trip, I felt so well-protected by God. What seemed like the most dangerous place became a place of peace for us!

On top of that, our workshop was packed, and it was a success. Praise the Lord!

In April, my husband and I were travelling around Negombo, Sri Lanka. As Pastor Prince has always shared—we should never take protection for granted. Hence, throughout our travels, we would partake of the Holy Communion in our room, and give thanks to Abba for keeping us safe.

On Good Friday, we dropped by one of the churches for a short visit before we flew home on a red eye flight. Thereafter, we rode in our hired car around Negombo, passing by many churches, including St Sebastian Church. Traffic was slower there as the roads were lined with vehicles, and many people were walking in the streets. The church compound was also overflowing with worshippers.

Days later, we found out from the news that a bomb was detonated at St Sebastian Church that Sunday. I thank our heavenly Father for His divine protection. The bomb blast could have happened anytime and anywhere, and we could have been hurt or even killed in the blast. We can never protect ourselves, only our heavenly Father can protect us and keep us safe as He promises in Psalm 91.

A few weeks ago, I was crossing the road near my office with a colleague. The traffic light had just turned red and the cars were moving to a stop. The middle lane was not clearly visible to us as there were vehicles in both the first and third lanes.

Suddenly, I felt an urge to pull my colleague back as we were approaching the middle of the crossing. That was when a speeding car zoomed past us at just inches away from us. We were in shock.

We heard loud honks as cars from two opposing traffic lanes tried to avoid the speeding car. Thankfully, no accidents happened that day.

The road which we were crossing was one that we use multiple times a day. We are always mindful of the traffic signals whenever we cross that road as the traffic is heavy around the area. Despite our safety awareness and mindfulness, an awful accident almost happened.

We thank the Lord for His protection. How wonderful it is to know that we are always loved and watched over by the Lord.
